Since you asked:

"Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp, to guard a title that was rich before, to gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

~William Shakespeare,
ca. 1595

Yup, that's us.

ABOUT

Gilding the Lily is a small store located in Fullerton, California, the same town I grew up in. It's not very big, and has never aspired to be, but it is crammed with wonderful things, most of it vintage. Over the years, it's grown up and spawned a web site, workshops, open studio nights, and trunk shows that are marvelous fun. And though the store has changed over the years, its purpose has not. We intend to bring the best of vintage to artists and creative persons of all types. So you will find shelves of vintage ribbons, bolts and cards of old trim and fringe, cabinets full of buttons, old hats and clothing, religious items, ephemera and cases full of stampings, old pearls and beautiful beads.

If you come to visit, plan on spending some time exploring the store. There is always another drawer, basket or box willing to spill its contents into your hands, and you will have fun finding something to take home with you. The sound you hear when you're not listening is the wheels turning!

Gilding is located in the historic Villa de Sol, a 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival hotel with a beautiful courtyard with original stone fountain and pavers where you can dine at one of three local restaurants. If you live out of the area, we are easy to reach by freeway, or come in by train to another beautiful Spanish colonial gem, our little train station, just two blocks away on foot. However you get here, it will be a trip worth making...we hope to see you soon!
