Well, it's been a whirlwind week of soccer (the "beautiful game") in our house, and one of my most favorite things has been the three minute Nike tribute backed by the Focus-driven rock-fueled utterly awesome "Hocus Pocus" rock anthem that I remember so well. This is rock at its head banging best, and Alain and I have been indulging ourselves to the max, hence its appearance on my blog. It's just TOO GOOD. You are listening to the ultimate six minute version right now...
I mean, do you you remember this? Gawd, my head was bangin' listening to this, and we listened to it more than once. More like five or six times. I forgot how great Focus was, and in particular, how phenomenal "Hocus Pocus" was. Yikes, and double yikes. This was an unbelievable band, and I am ordering up a CD today, and another for Nathalie and Erik, who need to listen this one up.
It's been a fabulous World Cup week, with matches delivering more and less than we expected, and our own United States team delivering more and less than we wanted, but keeping us in the game longer than we might have expected. Landon Donovan delivered in the final moments, and we will see what the sport offers up to him in the coming months...EPL teams wanting to scoop him up and pay the big dollars (or pounds) to bring this phenomenal talent to bear. Donovan, don't forget from whence you came...
At any rate, I've enjoyed how the rock anthem has pumped people up. How, in listening to its driving beat, people have moved toward adopting a sport that has previously not enjoyed such universal appeal. Here, in the backwater of Fullerton, we've watched soccer take a front seat this year, and that is rewarding in and of itself.

I've been a big fan of soccer and the World Cup for many years now. I would even get up in the middle of the night to watch matches when the World Cup was in South Korea in 2002. I'm glad the rest of the U.S. is finally catching on to how great the "beautiful game" really is! I love the thought of being part of a world community watching and being excited about the same sporting event!
Thanks for the rock blast from the past. I have this on vinyl!
