Since you asked:

"Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp, to guard a title that was rich before, to gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

~William Shakespeare,
ca. 1595

Yup, that's us.

Catching up a little

Between work, helping mom out a little, and a few computer tics that have me hopping between new system and old, it's been hard to pull together a post. I generally blog from home, but CS3 is not cooperating on the new system, so photos must be downloaded and processed at work, and I don't always have the uninterrupted time to get them from camera to Photobucket. Yesterday was cooperative, and I managed to get a little bit done.
Some lovely things have been arriving at the store, including these old watch cases and parts. I don't run across them very often, and was happy to land on some.

These little beauties have been in the store before, but I found them at a place back east in quantity. These are raw brass, and they patina beautifully. The little crystal centers show off nicely against the brass when darkened...

These little beauties came from the same warehouse. They'll be in the drawer with all the crosses. What should we put in these little lockets, I wonder...

The week has held cleaning, too, with the back room producing things I thought were lost, like these beautiful silk ribbons for pendants. They are finished on both edges and taper to a point at the ends...
I also uncovered a big bag of vintage stamens that were languishing under a stack of stuff...

There were some lovely ones in the bag, fine tiny ones with two colored tips, and big sprays of the long pearl-tipped ones I love. The best surprise was the tiny mushrooms...love them!

Last to come out of hiding was some vintage organza trim with shaped edges and cutouts. It's a lovely color, with just enough age on it be perfect...
