Since you asked:
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."
~William Shakespeare, ca. 1595
Yup, that's us.

Button, button...
Yesterday I had the opportunity to go on a little treasure hunt. A friend of a neighbor passed on the contact information for someone holding a cache of vintage Czech glass buttons. Here is what I found...
Most of the buttons are residing in a small storage in back of Mike's building. There was no light except the daylight coming in the door, so these pictures aren't the best, but they'll give you an idea of what I was able to sort through. I made it through a cursory inventory of the messiest of the boxes, since someone had organized some of the buttons into cartons with samples of the contents taped on the outside. So, I concentrated on the boxes with big, messy heaps of stuff...glorious fun!
I took latex gloves with me, but they were soon in shreds, and I was soon grimy from my labors. I managed to put together two small cartons of buttons I selected, and will go back for more in a few weeks time. If you're a button lover, you can imagine that I was in button heaven!
There's tons to choose from, but I love the lacy black glass and found a few cards tucked in here and there...
Here's some of my treasures, which includes a lot of old milk glass, something I have been collecting, and on the hunt for, with a little project in mind. I love all the different patterns...
And my favorites...these delicate little mercury glass buttons in flower shapes...oh my!
They were tucked in with a bundle of what I supposed was all milk glass, tied up with string. In another bundle of milk glass, I found two cards of beautiful green roses. So upon my return in a few weeks, I will be more carefully examining all the little bundles to see what secrets ~ and treasures ~ they may hide...
