....I can barely stand it. I have been traipsing about in blogland, and had a cooling little respite looking at Amy's trip around the harbor in a trim little Duffy, and gazing at some beautiful and crisp photos at Lidy's...linen always does look so nice and refined, doesn't it? Having said that, I am now looking down at the rumpled remains of an oatmeal colored handkerchief linen shirt I put on this morning, barely recognizable as a garment now after a day in these temperatures...
The dogs are struggling with the heat, lurching to their feet periodically and looking at us expectantly, pleading with little chihuahua eyes that say, "Can't you PLEASE do something about this?!" Cricket, at three pounds, can hardly afford to sweat off any weight. They are spending the majority of their time in the hallway, where it is cool, and they flatten their little bodies against the hardwood floors in search of cool air.
Cricket put in a hard day's work yesterday at Linda's Remax office, armed with her own business cards and her best t-shirt (black, sleeveless, and bearing the inscription, "Life's Short: Bite Hard!" All rather Bruce Springsteen, and we thought she might look tough with a pack of Lucky Strikes rolled up in her sleeve) spending some time there as Linda's contribution to the "bring your dog to work day" at Remax North Orange County. She was very well received by all (she is adorable!) and made it almost to the finish line with impeccable behavior, with the exception of that unfortunate emission at the doorway of Linda's boss' office... Oh well, no one's perfect, least of all Cricket. Here's her business card:
Check out the titles: "PFR", (Pet Friendly Realtor), and "CA", (Canine Associate). She's a total professional...
Today, although heat-challenged, was a wonderful day at the store. Wendy taught her Victorian Locket class, and once again proved why she is such an outstanding instructor. You can see some of her own work in her Etsy shop at www.wendyhumphreys.etsy.com. We had fun afterwards working on some projects and noodling future class schedules, and sadly, saw our little Maya off in a shuttle to the airport on her way back to London. We are hoping that both she and Rajeev will be back in July, perhaps in time for Belgian Day! Bonnes Frites! Something to look forward to, although if this heat keeps up we had better think about installing misters on the deck...
My daughter and her boyfriend Erik are leaving for San Francisco tomorrow morning early (yes, I am on airport shuttle duty) and check out these temps: they will be in the sixties up there! I am sooo jealous. She's picking out layers, for crying out loud, and asking me which scarves she should take. Okay, that's it, I'm definitely not sharing the boss Missoni shades Maya left with me, complete with upholstered case. That deal is OFF....!
Well, I am rambling, and I guess I should close. It's definitely the heat, girls. I visited a menopause information website (THAT says it all, doesn't it?) and they say that heat itself can actually trigger a hot flash, so I can assume that I am doomed, I think. Remember me, girls, and speak well of me when you can, as I close this missive a la the Wicked Witch of the West:
"I'm MELTIINNNGGGG!"
Hugs from Heatsville, Nancy

I feel your pain Nancy. You KNOW it's hot if I missed going to the flea market today! I made it to the one on Saturday, but it was not *fun in the sun*.
Frumpled, that was me. And my huge Lab was oh so hot. He's a little miffed that I didn't set up a play date "for work" for him, too. (there's airco there, he says)AND he wanted one of those business cards, too. bother. It's too hot to think, let alone about my dog.Isn't it good enough I share the fan with him?

I'd let Cricket sell my house...it takes all that puppy charm in today's market! We are hovering around 110 degrees here in Phoenix, but it's a dry heat.....
