Since you asked:

"Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp, to guard a title that was rich before, to gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

~William Shakespeare,
ca. 1595

Yup, that's us.

A little truth and beauty...

The amazingly cool weather we've been having this summer and especially this August has tempted Dede and I out onto the trails again, trying to get back on track with walking and hiking after a busy summer. This morning baby Ruby was with us, so we opted not to off road but wandered the neighborhoods around Golden Hills, exploring the streets that skirt the trails, but still offered up many beautiful sights.

Ruby was soon nodding in the stroller, and we chatted as we spent a delightful hour walking through little lanes lined with picket fences and tumbling roses, their petals strewn down over the curb, making even the lowly gutters look beautiful. I am always astounded by the small bits of loveliness that surround us that are so easy to overlook.

I don't know what we talk about, but we seem to fill the hour with constant chatter, giving our lungs as well as our legs a good workout. We hadn't gotten to walk together much this summer with Dede minding the baby and her grandson as well, but we are making up for lost time. The year will be away from us very soon, as this perfect weather promises fall rather than summer. I know California's capricious nature, though, and won't be surprised if the temperatures spike as late as October...
