Sometimes we just need a little something to take the edge off a rough day, or make us forget about the oppressive late summer heat. The past week has been particularly warm, and today will be another one to get through, so I'm starting my day with thoughts of things more pleasant...
Since you asked:
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."
~William Shakespeare, ca. 1595
Yup, that's us.

A little truth and beauty...
The amazingly cool weather we've been having this summer and especially this August has tempted Dede and I out onto the trails again, trying to get back on track with walking and hiking after a busy summer. This morning baby Ruby was with us, so we opted not to off road but wandered the neighborhoods around Golden Hills, exploring the streets that skirt the trails, but still offered up many beautiful sights.

One of my favorites...
Into every life, a little poetry should come, and this is one of my favorites, written by a former poet laureate...
When it’s late at night and branches
are banging against the windows,
you might think that love is just a matter
of leaping out of the frying pan of yourself
into the fire of someone else,
but it’s a little more complicated than that.

into the fire of someone else,
but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Rainy morning...
I love the rain in the morning. I had checeked the weather and was not expecting this storm to show up until later in the afternoon, so I was thrilled. We are all tucked inside...the dogs braided together in their little bed keeping each other warm, two cats downstairs, and Max sleeping under the big tree by the fireplace. I stepped into the pantry to listen to the rain.
