Since you asked:

"Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp, to guard a title that was rich before, to gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

~William Shakespeare,
ca. 1595

Yup, that's us.

Finally...the weekend!

Or, my version of it!

How I love Sundays! It is one of my favorite days of the week, second only to Thursday, when I get to spend the evening with friends at the shop. Sundays are imbued with a special feeling, a pace that slows just slightly, enough to let us look around and wonder at the turn of a leaf, the color of a bloom, and rejoice even in a gloomy, gray day...that's just enough reason to light a few candles and nest!

Today I will put some energy into setting up my new space downstairs in a corner of the bedroom. It will do for right now, and even if a little cramped, there is lovely light from two windows in that corner, one facing south and one facing west. It will be fun to sit and work a little bit and see what happens, letting the magic of Sunday do its work.

It is, in fact, a little overcast, and the windows in our little office are flung open, letting in the cool morning air. Overhead, a ceiling fan spins lazily, stirring the tendrils of hair at the back of my neck as I type. There are two little dogs at my feet, and one more roaming, and every once in a while I hear the creak of Alain's big leather desk chair as he sits in front of the computer reading Le Soir online, taking in the European news in French.

So friends, no pictures today, only words to paint them, languorous and lazy, drifting like a leaf in a pool, changing direction as tiny currents overtake it. That makes me think of an instrumental piece I love by Lyle Mays; it always conjures up the feeling that I am laying on my back in a small skiff, drifting close to the shore of a river, passing in an out of sun and shadows. I have always loved the way you can feel the light changing, even with your eyes closed. When I listen to that piece, it evokes that feeling, one arm flung over one's head, the other hand trailing in the water, tracing a path through the day...

Enjoy your Sunday!
