Since you asked:

"Therefore, to be possess'd with double pomp, to guard a title that was rich before, to gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
to throw a perfume on the violet, to smooth the ice, or add another hue unto the rainbow, or with taper-light
to seek the beauteous eye of heaven to garnish, is wasteful and ridiculous excess."

~William Shakespeare,
ca. 1595

Yup, that's us.

Love is the answer...

For those of you who have traversed my blog and stayed long enough to endure my playlist, you've heard the peppering of Todd Rundgren that persists throughout, including the song, "Love is the Answer." It is decidedly a dated tune, but one that I love, and I decided today -- after listening to it spool by as I worked on web stuff -- that it is still very timely, maybe more than ever.

This could be a tough year...a really tough year. Maybe we need those words, those thoughts, those dreams. That life is worth elevating, that thought is worth archiving, that we can save each other in little ways, in each day to day that passes under our hands.

Maybe it only speaks to me. Maybe I'm one of those aging hipsters that loves the anthems that sing of truth over populist belief, and urge us to join in shouldering the burdens that lay ahead, seemingly heavier every day. All I know is, this song sings to me, year after year, and calls me to do service to others, reaching above and beyond what I know is there....I think that's called hope.

Here's Todd's take on it. I was lucky enough to hear this in person at the Roxy, and the whole place swelled with voices, especially when we got to, "When you're down and out..." We might have a little of that on the horizon. We might need a little of this on tap.

Name your price,
A ticket to paradise...
I can't stay here any more.
And I've looked high and low,
I've been from shore to shore to shore.
If there's a short cut I'd have found it,
But there's no easy way around it.

Light of the world, shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free
Love is the answer

Who knows why...
Someday we all must die.
We're all homeless boys and girls;
And we are never heard.
It's such a lonely world...
People turn their heads and walk on by.
Tell me, is it worth just another try?

Tell me, are we alive, or just a dying planet?
What are the chances?
Ask the man in your heart for the answers.

And when you feel afraid, love one another.
When you've lost your way, love one another.
When you're all alone, love one another.
When you're far from home, love one another.
When you're down and out, love one another.
All your hopes run out, love one another...
When you need a friend, love one another.
When you're near the end, love one another...
We got to love one another.
